The Lowther Arms is a traditional country pub in the heart of Mawbray village, close to the sea on the Solway Plain in north-west Cumbria. Set in peaceful countryside and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Buffer Zone, we are surrounded by stunning views of the Lakes and Scotland.
Although tenanted, The Lowther Arms is a cooperative and community-owned pub, saved from permanent closure and conversion to a house by the local community and over 300 shareholders.
After being closed for two and a half years, the pub re-opened in June 2021, and is now more than a pub – offering a comfortable place to have a drink, enjoy a meal, meet with friends, or simply a quiet corner to read in. Whether you are a local, a visitor, walker, or cyclist, come and relax in our lovely pub with its beer garden and stunning views of the Lake District.
Our 4-pitch caravan site is open and booking is highly advisable. We have 3 pitches for tourers and motorhomes, a Pod, plus camping.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar, conservatory and beer garden.
We look forward to seeing you!

Do £10 quid a head...thats sensible and will make people think twice...altho nowadays thats a drop in the bucket with the price of food ..another thing...take note of who they are..dont let them book again!
Dont blame you..its your livliehood..xx
Payment focuses the attention to turn up !!! Shame you’ve had to do this on the back of irresponsible no shows
How can people do this, why arrange something then not turn up.
To.meniys very very bad manners it's doesn't take a few minutes to cancel then people will know where they stand lots if appointments at the Dr's is a no show ery very rude
This is becoming common for larger bookings. My wife booked a meal with some friends and they all had to pay a deposit up front (actually, I think they had to pay the full amount in advance) and order the food well before the day. Completely understandable in the current climate. 👏👏👏
We had a number of reduced party numbers, late cancellations, no shows or people that book several nights and want to check out early (because they were out of their competition) with no financial penalty for them. For some reason people think this is socially acceptable!!! No thought to the staffing arrangements, food that will waste, the heating and hot water that you have had on expecting them to arrive or the fact that you stayed there all day waiting. OR the number of people you had to turn away because you didn't have space. The result is the customers that DO show up have to pay more. I always get deposits now and unless you are a frequent/ reliable payment in advance. Even Booking dot con says cancellations are "free" or that there is "no deposit" but if you cancelled less than a month out the venue is within their right to charge you full payment.
I think deposits for over 5+ people is acceptable tbh as thats a big enuf table to make an impact on yur night never mind 8
Can understand you doing this, you cannot live on no shows.
Completely normal preordering for that number and deposit
